On November 27, 2023, the Urban Cohesion Hub-RWP, Inspire Pakistan organized special sessions and activities for female Afghan refugees and host communities during the 16 Days of Activism. In these sessions, Legal Officer Ms. Hina shared information about gender-based violence (GBV), explaining its different types, women’s rights, and options available for GBV survivors. Furthermore, Psychosocial Officer Ms. Asma Malik introduced Drum Beat Therapy as a helpful way to channel anger caused by GBV, providing a positive outlet for releasing frustration from challenging home situations. This activity aims to address anger linked to gender-based violence, reduce anxiety, and help manage behavioral issues, fostering healing and self-expression. Moreover Medical officer Dr. Kiran provided information on health hazards for the survivors of gender-based violence.

On September 28th, 2023, Inspire Pakistan and Transparent Hands collaborated to organize a Service Camp in Karachi’s Afghan Camp, aiming to provide essential healthcare services and hope to vulnerable residents. Psychologists from Karwan-e-Hayat were present to address the emotional and psychological needs of the community, highlighting the importance of holistic care. Local outreach volunteers played a vital role in fostering unity and community engagement. Esteemed guests, including Mr. Alexey, the Protection Officer of UNHCR, Mr. Hafeez Kakar, the Assistant Protection Associate of UNHCR, and Mr. Quaim-ud-Din, the Deputy Commissioner of Commissioner Sindh CAR, graced the event, emphasizing the power of collective action. Together, these organizations exemplified the strength of collaboration, offering both medical care and a renewed sense of hope to the Afghan Camp residents, reminding them that they are not alone in their time of need.

On September 20th, 2023, a distinguished delegation visited to the Urban Cohesion Hub-Rawalpindi, Inspire Pakistan. The delegation was comprised of notable individuals, including Ms. Shahida Sultan; an Associate Education Officer at UNHCR Pakistan, Ms. Jael Shisaniya; Senior Education Officer at UNHCR-Asia/Pacific Region, and Ms. Chiara Ghisi; an Associate Education Officer UNHCR Head Quarter.

During this visit, the delegation engaged in meaningful discussions with refugees participating in the child-friendly space, english, computer classes, and livelihood unit. These discussions revolved around the experiences of the refugees and the various challenges they encountered.

Additionally, the delegation had the opportunity to meet with graduates of the DAFI-Inspire Pakistan program. This meeting facilitated a constructive dialogue regarding the pursuit of education in Pakistan, shedding light on the experiences and achievements of these students.

Inspire Pakistan in collaboration of UNHCR Pakistan implementing the community based Protection project for refugees. To revive the Refugees Referral Network (RRN) throughout Pakistan. CBP Team, Karachi ,Inspire Pakistan conducted meeting and gathered all potential partners non-government organizations, government stakeholders and community service organizations to create strategies and environment the support synergies for all involved parties in general .

Refugee Referral Network is a referral system and a platform for various NGOs, INGOs and government organizations, that involves internal and external partners who bridge the gaps in protection and aid service delivery to mitigate protection risks. Referrals under the RRN are sources internally, externally and directly from the concerned refugee. The RRN is a platform of cooperation between multiple stakeholders to provide protection and assistance services to the vulnerable refugee population.

On August 24th,2023, a prestigious delegation visited the Urban Cohesion Hub-Rawalpindi, Inspire Pakistan. The visit involved discussions among legal, medical, and mental health officers regarding their respective services and the challenges they face. The delegation also interacted with POR card holders and recently arrived students, providing an opportunity to address their difficulties and concerns.

Inspire Pakistan arranged a service camp in collaboration with Transparent Hands at Sagiyan Pull, Lahore, on the 10th of August, 2023. The service camp aimed at providing free medical services to the indigent and impoverished Afghan community residing in Sagiyan Pull and whereabouts. The camp entertained 600+ Afghans from the locality while also offering free medical testing services and distribution of free medicines.
Inspire’s Community Based Protection team from the Head Office as well as from Lahore thoroughly participated in the service camp, offering their services with utmost zeal and enthusiasm. Resultantly, the service camp was a success and it was well received by the host community.
Efforts of the Transparent Hands team are well worth mentioning as well. Inspire looks forward to collaboration with Transparent Hands on multi-faceted avenues of similar interests for the uplifting of the destitute Afghan migrant community.

The Urban Cohesion Hub – Rawalpindi,Inspire Pakistan collaborated with Rescue 1122 to arrange a specialized Community-Based Health First Aid Training in Sadiqabad. This training was exclusively tailored for female Afghan refugees. Mr. Mobeen Ur Rasheed led an informative session that encompassed crucial subjects including fundamental life support, criteria for blood donation, and potential risks associated with medical procedures. Throughout the training, the female refugees actively engaged in hands-on practical exercises, expertly guided by the instructors. These practical sessions encompassed a range of activities, from Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to proper recovery positioning, wound care, handling fractures during emergency scenarios, and the correct application of diverse types of bandages. Moreover, the participants were educated on how to manage spinal and head injuries, along with other pertinent physical skills.

The training day was structured into two groups, each participating in a series of activities. Upon the successful culmination of the first aid training, certificates and first aid kits distribution ceremony was conducted by Ms Zahra Khaild, the Project Manager of UCH-RWP, Inspire Pakistan, and Mr Iftikhar, Senior Protection Assistant at UNHCR. This ceremony aimed to equip the participants with the necessary tools to apply the acquired skills effectively.

Two days of thorough training for staff and outreach volunteers in host and refugee contexts were conducted at Ramada Plaza, Karachi, that helped unleash the power of inclusion and social harmony. “Inspire Pakistan and GIZ (tag GIZ Pakistan) organized a DAFI Plus Networking Event at the National Incubation Centre (NIC) Islamabad to celebrate the successes of former and current DAFI Plus trainees. The event was attended by the main stakeholders and partners of DAFI Plus with Ambassador and First Secretary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Pakistan, Chief Commissioner for Afghan Refugees, and representatives from GIZ and UNHCR. DAFI Plus trainees and alumni from all over Pakistan played a special role as panelists and front runners for the exhibition. The trainees took center stage, captivating the audience with their personal experiences and highlighting the transformative impact of the DAFI Plus initiative. In addition, the trainees proudly showcased their impressive work at vibrant stalls, displaying their creativity and skills. It was a moment of pride and joy for everyone involved, witnessing the talent and determination of the DAFI Plus trainees.

In collaboration with UNHCR, the GIZ Refugee Management Support Programme, on behalf of the German Federal Foreign Office, developed DAFI Plus to complement the Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee initiative (DAFI), with the aim to connect current and past DAFI scholars as well as educated Afghan refugee youth in Pakistan with on-the-job training opportunities and provide them with digital skills trainings, thereby equipping them with marketable professional experience and skills to support a sustainable reintegration upon a voluntary repatriation to Afghanistan.”

Promoting Unity through Sports: Male Sports Gala in Rawalpindi unites Afghan and Host Communities”

Inspire Pakistan’s Urban Cohesion Hub in Rawalpindi organized an exhilarating Male Sports Gala at the Shahbaz Sharif Sports Complex Stadium. The event brought together males from both Afghan and host communities, showcasing the power of sports in fostering mutual understanding and social solidarity. Participants engaged in passionate competitions of Badminton, Table tennis, Arm-wrestling, Karate and Tug of war demonstrating the true spirit of sportsmanship and peaceful coexistence.

The highlight of the event was the trophy ceremony, where the winning team received well-deserved recognition, along with the encouraging runners-up. The trophies were presented by esteemed guests, including Director Operations, Mr. Mian Asif Shah Inspire Pakistan, Mr. Yasir Ayaz Khan, Assistant Field Officer, UNHCR, Mr. Asif Shahzad, Communications & PI, and Mr. Iftikar Khan, Senior Community based Protection Assistant, UNHCR accompanied by Project Manager, Ms. Zahra Khaild.This gesture symbolized the importance of sports in promoting unity and encouraging a harmonious way of life for all. Urban Cohesion Hub, Karachi, Inspire Pakistan organized a wonderful exposure visit for Afghan and Host Community students from Joyful Learning Centre. Our young explorers took part in maritime history and aquatic wonders during their thrilling trip to the Maritime Museum. Old Navy collections, multiple ship and aircraft models, and an amazing submarine experience. An engaging film was also displayed for the children’s which highlighted the Pakistan Navy’s devotion, bravery, and professionalism. As youngsters from all backgrounds establish strong links of friendship, cohesion and harmonious living. Building a more peaceful community and a brighter future through compassion, respect, and togetherness.

The Urban Cohesion Hub Karachi, Inspire Pakistan organized a unique Mega Sports event at Hashmi Farm House, bringing together female students from both the Afghan and host communities. The power of sports reflected through as we observed passionate contests of throwball, badminton, and swimming, fueling mutually beneficial competition while building social solidarity. Trophies were presented to the winning team as well as the encouraging runners-up, demonstrating the real spirit of sportsmanship and peaceful living. Each member of the winning and runner-up teams got a badminton, symbolizing their shared love of sports and dedication to overcoming boundaries.

DAFI Plus Team arranged an engaging online session on 5th April, 2023 regarding the theme of this year International Women’s Day “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”. The session was attended by more than 100 participants including DAFI Plus trainees, DAFI Scholars, tech industry experts, and representatives from GIZ and UNHCR to discuss the crucial role of digital literacy in achieving gender equality. The session emphasized creating a safe digital space and equal opportunities for all and specifically for Female Afghan Refugees.

The DAFI Plus is being implemented on behalf of GIZ by Inspire Pakistan in Islamabad, Karachi, Quetta and Peshawar.

In the spirit of celebrating #16DaysOfActivism, female youth from the Afghan refugee and local host communities took a workshop on “Citizen Journalism and Digital Storytelling” by renowned freelance journalist and filmmaker, Ms. fizzah Khan at Urban Cohesion Hub (UCH) Karachi, InspirePakistan.

Aligned with this year’s theme, “UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls” students learnt how to use mobile phones to make meaningful content to highlight social issues and document impactful stories in their communities through social media.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and Inspire Pakistan, celebrated DAFI 30 years Anniversary. The Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative (DAFI) scholarship programme has transformed the lives of over 2,800 refugee students across Pakistan since 1992, and over 21,500 learners around the world.
DAFI scholars actively participated in the event. The alumni who graduated with the support of DAFI scholarship program and started small businesses presented their businesses and stories to the guests. The scholars appreciated the support of UNHCR , Pakistan Government and German Government in Pakistan dated 15th November 2022.
